The south end of Paradise Ridge is my new favorite place. Thanks to the efforts of private concerns, it is one of the few native plant refuges on the Palouse. From the beginning of the trailhead to the top takes about 45 minutes to an hour of heart pounding exhilaration. On this late, spring day the forecast called for isolated thunder storms. All afternoon I watched the clouds building and decided I couldn’t pass up the chance. By the time I drove to the trail head and hiked to the top, the clouds were beginning to blot out the sun. I waited hopefully, and at a clearing on the horizon, the sun suddenly burst through the clouds, washing the landscape with it’s golden light.
